Windows Xp Home update from ME

I have installed xp update from ME. Most functions work yet in the control
panel Many of the Graphic user icons do not respond. I try to use the system
tray icon and it doe nor work i can right click and get the option to close
or open yet using either option does not work. I can not even get to the
registry number to trouble shoot this problem online with microsft with out
being charged an arm an a leg. While I am a starving student. Any ideas
would be greatly appreciated.

Are you saying you have installed the upgrade version of Windows XP over
Windows ME? Is your computer capable of running XP?

Did you run the upgrade advisor check? You may have graphic
drivers that are not XP compatible or even non-supported
hardware.
Was the system running well when you began the upgrade (not
update) to XP? Did you turn off or uninstall any anti-virus
and security software before the upgrade?

If you bought a retail XP Upgrade you do have free
installation support.
