Windows XP will not boot

Windows gets to the welcome window my screen saven comes up but nothing else.
Tried to use safe mode start up but it went no where after selecting
operating system. Also selected to restore based on last known good
application but I got to the log in window, received a message that loading
personal settings and then nothing happened. Any ideas? I don't have a
windows xp reboot cd.
