After the July Security Update install,
OF
(KB 917283), (KB 914388), (KB917159), (KB 916595)

On shut down it will freeze, and I have to press
the "Reset" button on the Computer it will restart
and then it will shut down.

Is anyone having the same Problem?
Any suggestion for a fix is Welcome.

Thanks a Lot, x@y

Can you try allowing it a LONG time to shutdown - e.g. 10 to 15 minutes, to
see if it finally succeeds.

Please disconnect any network connections you have made before attemtping
the shutdown.

Hello Robin,

Thank You very much for Your Advice.

A couple of day ago I have
restored my System to a date before the Updates install.
And now the Computer shuts down as before, in less than 30 seconds.

Reason for Posting is:
I still have Microsoft's Security (Shield Icon) in my Desktop tray
waiting for the Updates to be reinstalled, my Computer Store Tech.,
advised me to install one Update @ the time and see which one
is causing the problem, this is very good Idea.
By my experience from previous Updates installs,
if I will install one @ the time I cannot see them listed
on the Add/Remove screen till all of them are installed.
This happened to me while ago, I don't know if by now it has changed.

My System is working perfect as of today, I am a bit scared
to carry out experiments.

If anyone could tell witch one Update from the above is causing
the problem, I would leave it out and install the rest.

Do You have any safe Suggestions?
Thanks, x@y

Sorry, I really don't understand what you are trying to say. You can always
install updates one at a time in Windows Update by choosing the "Custom"
route. I do not know what relevance the "Add/Remove" screen has to do with
installing updates one at a time. If you wish to add the updates one at a
time, then just do so.

None of the updates are known to cause such a problem.

Hello Robin,
I am going to explain why of the "Add/Remove" Screen:
You are perfectly right it has nothing to with the Updates.

If I am installing the Updates one at the time, and suppose
that the second install is the one that causes the problem,
and I want to uninstall it, and go to "Add/Remove" Screen
they might not appear on the List of installed Security Updates
as yet, because not all of the complete released Package of
Security Updates are installed. This is what I have experieced
a while ago. Of course there is the Option of System Restore,
if It is not corrupted.

In the next a few days I am going to install one at time
and see what happens, It seems I am the only one with
similar problem, that's good news.

Thank You very Much for Your Help

That's not right. Each update has its own entry in control panel
"Add/Remove Programs": it does not depend on others.

Hello Robin,

I have decided to start installing the following Updates one at the time.
(KB917283), (KB914388), (KB917159), (KB916595).

Last night I have downloaded and installed (KB 917283),
after the install I have restarted the computer and went to
check if it is listed on the Add/Remove screen,
and (KB 917283) does not appear on the List.
My last Security install shows June 30/06,
and not July 26/06.

Yet on my Desktop tray there still is the Microsoft Security
Shield (Icon) If I click it open it shows:
only (KB 914388), (KB917159), (KB 916595) the remainder
three to be installed, this will confirm that
(KB 917283) is installed, but I do not see it listed at this time.
Where the heck is it ? In case it will cause trouble
and I should wish to remove it.

This is what I was trying to get across
in our previous conversations.

Thanks for Your Advice, x@y

In "Add or Remove Programs", ensure you have "Show updates" checked.

KB917283 is not a Windows update.

KB917283 is shown as "Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0
(KB917283)" under the main entry for "Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0".

Yes "Show Updates" Is allways checked on my Computer.

> KB917283 is not a Windows update.

Does this mean that because it a "Window update" It will not show
under the Add/Remove Programs?

Before installing KB917283, I have read the description of what is
for, but I really don't know what "Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0"
Does, or even if I need It.

Is it possible to view the entry for "Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0"?.
If yes, how to navgate to open it?
Thanks a Lot, x@y

Yes, it is listed in Add or Remove Programs, under M for Microsoft.

The Framework is not an application you can run: it is a collection of
libraries, which might be used by other applications.
