You've been had.

You could turn the shop into the cops or Microsoft.

OK. Then how about the local district attorney's office or
prosecutor. A crime is a crime, regardless. There has been
too much of this type of nonsense going on. What's next? A
biometric scan to confirm validity for product activation
and updates?

YES, Youve beed HAD - He has Installed a copy of XP with a PIRATE product
key! Get on to it and REPORT him, (he knew it was a pirate XP, as NO
LEGITIMATE DEALER would tell you to "NEVER TURN ON UPDATES", (Iknow this as i
once ran a Pirated XP, and the thing you learn QUICKLY, is to STAY OUT OF
LEGAL TROUBLE - NEVER LET WINDOWS UPDATE!!!!! Sort this one out quick before
it's YOUR ass on the line instead of HIS!!!

Assuming you still have XP Home, reformat the hard disk, back up any
data you have and install it.

Um, a breach of an EULA is not a crime. Selling a pirated copy of XP is
a crime, not installing one copy on many computers. The local DA would
laugh at you if you even got an opportunity to talk to him or her.
