I am trying to update SP2 for my Windows XP Professional Edition and after
giving me an option of downloading and installing SP2, it just sits for about
30 seconds before giving me an error message saying it has failed to download
or update to SP2. It gives me an error code of 0xC000009C. How do i resolve
this?

Hello Jay.

Suggest cleaning up the system (clearing out all the Temp/Tmp folders, and
included all offline content, clearing the browser TIF, Delete Cookies , do a
Disk CleanUp.

Click the Start button . In the Search box, type Disk Cleanup, and then, in
the list of results, click Disk Cleanup.

Perhaps some maintenance, try running the "chkdsk /r" command at the command
prompt http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265

How to run Checkdisk at boot up:
WHY: Checkdisk can be used to check for and possibly fix file system errors
and bad sectors on the hard drive.

1. open Start menu
2. in white line (Start Search) area type cmd and press Enter
3. type cd\ (in command prompt) and press Enter
4. If you have 64-bit Vista, type cd\windows\syswow64
If you have 32-bit Vista, type cd\windows\system32
5. press Enter
6. type chkdsk /r and press Enter
You'll get a message: "Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by
another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the
next time this system restarts? <Y/N>"
7. type Y and press Enter
You'll get a message: "This volume will be checked the next time the system
restarts."
8. close command prompt window
9. Restart the computer to run Checkdisk
