I have recently downloaded the trial version of Windows XP Professional x64,
and installed it on a new computer.
In order to validate it I have to log on to the Internet and go to a
Microsoft Web page. I have tried to log on through my broadband provider
(orange), but get the message "...Application is not designed to run on
current operating system. To run this installer ... need Windows 2000 SP3+ or
Windows XP SP1+. Connect to your router and open a web browser...."
I assume this is a problem with x64, as my current computer has XP
proffesional, and works fine.
The problem is that I cannot connect to the internet on my new computer to
get the service pack until I am able to ...connect to the Internet !
This feels like one of those conundrums that goes round and round. I would
be grateful for any suggestions. (On the microsoft site, the only avenue of
assistance appears to be to use their proffesional experts at a cost of £199
+ VAT)

You have installed x64 drivers for your hardware?
Have you set up broadband manually or are you attempting to use the orange
setup disk? - I assume this is where the err msg shows -
If so set up the connection manually

Hi DL
Thanks (belatedely) for the advice.
I could not get it to work, but have now bought and installed XP
Professional instead.
