"Windows XP RTM support on Windows Update is ending" message

I saw a message on the Windows Update site claiming that "Windows XP RTM
support on Windows Update is ending." Does that mean that Windows Update
will no longer work? I clicked on that link, but it just led to the
standard "End of support page" that might or might not apply. If it did
apply, it was not very specific. The closest date for my machine that I
could find was two years away. That is "soon"? Could someone explain
please?
