Windows Xp Service Pack 2 update

Help!
I have tried 3 times to install service 2 pack and it has failed, forcing me
to uninstall--It downloads but then does not finish installing-I even went
through with a Dell tech support person and am still having no luck. The
last attempt I gave the computer 9 hours before cancelling-it was "running"
as I slept ,but was still only half-way finished when I woke up! I can't
afford that amount of time!

Any ideas?

1. Ensure that you carried out all pre-requisite work before applying SP2.
This includes
- updating the system BIOS to the latest version;
- updating the drivers for the motherboard chipset, video, and audio.

2. Ensure that the system is completely free of all viruses, trojans,
spyware, adware, etc.

3. Esnure that you have lots of free disk space.

4. Download and "Save" (not "Run") the complete SP2 updater from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

5. Disconnect your PC from the internet.

6. Disable or uninstall all third-party anti-virus, anti-malware, download
accelerators, firewalls, etc applications.

7. Now run the updater you downloaded in step 4.
