Windows Xp Service Pack 3 Error

hi guys,
i downloaded this service pack 3 from the microsoft download center. it
wirks fine on my desktop but when i go to use the same in my laptop it gives
me an error.
"
C:\WINDOW~1.EXE
C:\DOCUME~1\Piyush\LOCALS~1\Temp\. A temperorary file needed for
initialization could not be created or could not be written to. Make sure
that the directory path exists, and disk space is available. Choose 'Close'
to terminate the application.
"

Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for
Windows XP, but only for Service Pack 3 (SP3), until 14 Apr-09. Chat and
e-mail support is available only in the United States and Canada.

When you say, "downloaded this service pack 3 from the microsoft download
center" --> do you mean the IT version of SP3? If you plan on installing
the patch on more than one machine - that's fine - but I think you might
have better luck with the ISO image and making an installable CD from it...
