More information requested/required:

- Version of Windows XP? (Home Edition, Professional Edition, Media Center
Edition, Tablet PC Edition, x64, etc?)
- Reason for not upgrading to Service Pack 2 already?

Have you:

- Backed up everything inportant to you (documents, pictures, emails,
contacts, bookmarks, etc) to external media?
- Done a full system scan for viruses/trojans/worms and cleaned up any you
have found?
- Done a full system scan for spyware/adware/malware and cleaned up any you
have found?
- Uninstalled any unused applications form the Add or Remove Programs
Control Panel?
- Updated your hardware device drivers from each hardwar device
manufacturer's support web pages?
- Ran a full checkdisk on you hard disk drive(s)?
- Ran a full defragmentation on your hard disk drive(s)?

Did you try:

- Downloading the full (marked as "IT Version") Windows XP Service Pack 2
file and try the install locally instead of using

Download WinXP SP2 for manual installation from this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...5-9e368d3cdb5a

NB: Save the download to your desktop, do not Run it!

Before installing, review the Tips, FAQ and Best Practices here:
http://aumha.net/index.php?c=16

At minimum, you want to disable your anti-virus application and any
anti-spyware applications prior to installing. Reboot twice after the
installation completes. It's not unusual for the first reboot to take 15-20
minutes.
