Windows Update (in my case, Microsoft Update) working again. Wait..I take that back... it's not working. It hung when clicked the "Scan"
button. I killed IE and when I restarted it, it gave me the "Install Microsoft Update" prompt and that then gave me the same 80245003 error. Windows/Microsoft Update still not working. OK, I figured it out. It has to do with MICROSOFT Update vs WINDOWS Update.
I was using Microsoft Update and I have Office 2007 Beta 2 installed. Apparently, Microsoft Update (which also checks Office apps and other app) doesn't like IE7 RC1. When I forced it to go to Windows Update, it worked. "bjaber" wrote: > Wait..I take that back... it's not working. It hung when clicked the "Scan" > button. So just to recap...if you are using Windows XP SP2, IE 7 RC1, *and* Office
2007 Beta 2, you need to use WINDOWS Update and *not* MICROSOFT Update. The latter does not work. When you visit Windows Update, you'll see the "Get Microsoft Update Today!" link with a "Go" button. DO NOT USE MICROSOFT UPDATE. It'll just cause the breakage and you'll need to following the instructions in the KB article below all over again. If you had Microsoft Update installed in the past, double-check and possible delete/edit your shortuct(s) in the Start Menu that point ot it. You'll want to recreate a shortcut to "wupdmgr.exe" (in the system32 directory). That's just "Windows Update". To get Office updates, you'll have to visit the Office Update site separately via "Office Online Beta" http://officebeta.iponet.net/en-us/d...incatalog.aspx I can consistently recreate the breakage and consistently fix it. Hope this clears the air. "bjaber" wrote: > OK, I figured it out.
