Windows XP SP 2 Installation

I have installed SP 2 and my Update Log shows this as being installed.
However, automatic updates are shownn as failing and when I go to the Windows
Update site, it recommends I install SP2. My Security Center shows a message
"The Security Center is currently unavailable because the "Security Center"
service has not started or was stopped." I have checked the Services for
Security Center and it is not listed. Do I have to uninstall SP2 and start
all over again?
