We were trying a video call between a vista machine and a xp sp2 machine.
Both of them have windows messenger 8.5 beta 1. Both the audio and the video
on the vista end was fine during the call. However the person with the xp
machine was unable to hear anything. His video was fine. His soundcard just
works fine. neither his mic nor his speaker has any issues. We tried google
talk and it works fine
can anyone throw some light on this issue

thanks

Can you check to see if the person on XP ran through the Messenger audio and
video setup wizard? If so, did audio work in the wizard?

Thanks

When there is no audio, can he see movement in the little green bars under
the volume slider (near the display picture)? Is it possible to move the
volume slider up and down or is it disabled? What sound card is he using?

Did you have any success with this problem. I have the exact same problem
with Windows Live Call and nobody is able to help me. I have queried every
source I can think of at this stage. Very frustrating as I have paid for my
internet phone service but cannot use it.

AOB9,
I had the same problem where I could hear the other end, but they could not
hear me. To resolve the problem, do the following:

1. go into the windows live messenger main window.
2. Select the drop-down arrow in the upper right-hand corner.
3. Select Tools --> Audio and Video setup.
4. Go through the setup.

Good luck!
