Windows XP SP2 Automatic Updates

I have Windows Xp SP2 on my system with FSecure AVS. Recently I had a lot of
problems with slow performance and with trojan horses that after cleaning up
the system I cleaned my registry by using regedit.exe. I must have erased
some important files because now I can not use automatic updates. The message
states that I should run Active X but I can not see this. My system is
working perfectly and fast with all programmes working but no automatic
updates. Can someone please help. I have tried everything.

Test this WGA diagnose test, connection to MS, that scripts working, Active
X, etc etc.

Additional info: Doesn't hurt to try Michel Denie's recommendation first.

Forgot to mention SFC
sfc /scannow

Run SFC to see if any file from the OS has been delete or corrupt.

I have tried both but nothing works. However going though my registry
entries. I have found that some were missing. Is there any other way. My
computer did not come with a CD so I can only restore. Would restore help to
restore my registry as well. If so then that have to be easy. I can then
clean up the system again.

Good morning ozyrosy,

If you believe your restore partition is not corrupt, sure, you can use it.

Remember use the restore and you have to reinstall some of your programs,
drivers, etc. etc. is a little extra work but in the long run is better for
you.

Check your hardware in device manager and see if there are any
conflicts,(yellow ? marks), beside your display adapter, your monitor, and
your sound drivers), sometimes a driver can come corrupt and you may need to
update it. also?


A word of caution. You may want to do some reading and thinking first
before you jump into using any registry cleaner. including one written by
Microsoft. (Windows Live OneCare Safety free service)

The damage risk potential can far outweigh any possible benefit you could

The same go for a manual registry clean up (unless you know for sure what
are you doing

One last thing? Go into safe mode, and do I scan on your hard drive for
errors, make sure before you do the scan? That the box is checked
for,"automaticaly fix errors".

Try running the "chkdsk /r" command at the command prompt

Then when thats all done? Do a defrag in safe mode. There are other causes
for computers to freeze, slow down, etc etc.

Hi Engel

You are absolutely right that we should not do anything if we are not sure
about something. I have not tried any of the websites but I sure will and
thank you for your tips for restore. I will let you know of the result.
