Hi Hope sombody can help me!

I am running Windows XP home Edition.
Hp pervilion 453.uk computer

I have recentley used the automatic Windows updater to install SP2. This
went without a hitch and every thing seamed to work at the time. However
dureing the following days i began to have problems with my CDRom drive. At
first i thought that it might be a Driver problem but after looking at sevarl
web sites and message boards i was unable to update any of my drivers ( seams
that i had the newest versions already)

I then came to the conclusion that the only way to get my CDRom drive to
work again was to remove the SP2 instalation. ( this is where i think i might
of gone wrong )
Not knowing the corect way of uninstalling this software i simply used the
HP recoverary system and rolled my computer back to a time befor the SP2
instalation. This i did and again all seamed to be well.

However i now find that when my computer runs the windows update web page it
starts checking to see what up dates i need and then hangs. No matter how
long i leave it to check the page simply reads " please wait wile windows
checks" I know somthings wrong but i don't know what.

I have also noticed that from time to time the computre can no longer find
any .exe files eventhough they can be easiley found by myself.

Can anybody tell me what i'm doing or have done wrong and how i can get my
compuer to run like it did before i tryied to install SP2 without losing all
the information i already have.

many thanks in advance

Richard

Ps: i'm not thick when it comes to computers but then again i'm not a IT
exspert either !!!!!

Checking for latest version ................

When searching for available updates on the Windows Update site, you see the
0x8007043B error
This error may occur if the WUAUSERV and BITS services are not configured properly in
the registry.
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...cleid=19&ln=en

or

Try registering the following:

Click Start, select Run and type (pressing enter after each one and wait for the
success message):

net.exe stop wuauserv
Press Ok

Repeat for the following:
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
