I have tried over and over to install this and it always fails. It doesn't
give a reason why... It doesn't offer any solutions.... I have plenty of free
space... I just reformatted the entire hardware after a system failure but I
can't get it to work. I just need to get the updates to install because I
just paid like $90 for AVG Virus Protection and cannot even use it. Can
someone please help me and tell me wtf I'm doing wrong....?

Due to lack of information see: http://winhlp.com/node/125
Windows XP Service Pack 2 Problem Solver

Did you know SP3 is now available?

First, let me doublecheck something: you've successfully installed Windows XP
and you're now trying to install service pack 2. Is this right?

What service pack level was the CD you used to install Windows XP?

Did you connect the computer to the internet in order to install service pack 2?

Where did you get the service pack 2 installer from?

Harry.

I have the same problem that Jessica asks about. I had to reformat my hard
drive and reinstall XP Professional 2002. I was finally able to update to
SP1, but cannot successfully install xp2. I can download it, and it appears
to install, but then I get the message that it failed to install. There is
an Error 0x80070017. I did try suggestions listed in this posting, e.g., I
ran Chkdsk/f and I deleted temporary internet files. I am stumped. Thanks
for any help. Kathy

Please begin a new thread about your problem, Kathy. Also tell us why
you're not skipping SP2 and installing SP3.

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you perform a new Windows XP
installation or you repair a Windows XP installation

Thanks for the reply. I used your suggestion to skip the SP2 update and
installed SP3 instead. Thank you so much for your help.

Every post made by "Cleaner007" either asks a question about dupe file
removers that are similar to the one referenced or telling someone to
try it because it's great.
