Rebuilt my notebook with the provided Toshiba recovery disk. Did not
register Windows doing installation because of no internet connection.
Successfully download and installed SP3 first. Now, updates will download
but will not insall. Even when using Microsoft's help documents, I can not
find a place to force Windows registration (may be the problem). Any ideas??

Activation is mandatory, registration is *optional*. Since you used
Toshiba's recovery disk to reinstall XP, then it's most likely already
Activated.

To get current updates installed, do Method 1 here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

To avoid future installation issues and to install the latest Version of
the Windows Update Agent, follow the directions on the above page for
Method 2 BUT, use the links on this page to obtain the Windows Update
Agent as they link to the *current* version of the WUA:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949104/

What did you search for? Do a search for that module
in the troubleshooter. FWIW I see 3 hits for it.
