windows XP update KB893086 does not install

Downloaded 6 updates today, 5 installed but update KB893086 did not
install. I tried it 6 times. Any idea what I can do ?

Hi Frida, try a manual download of the update and install
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS05-016.mspx

If it fails again, post back with any error codes etc.

time and knowledge so generously, you are great.

Glad for you Taurarian. However i'm not so lucky. Fails on copying
"ntoskrnl.exe" when doing a manual installation.

I am getting the same problems. I orginally tried the auto update which
would not, install, then via the Windows Update site, which gave an error
(sorry cannot remember, but began with a Dxxxx). Now have tried the manual
download which basically, downloads, starts to decompress and then gives a
file corruption error (no further details). I've tried several times,
including clearing the cache with no success.

Interestingly, the auto updates, keep showing the update as ready for
downloading when the machine boots. But it always fails when it tries to
download automatically.

Anyone have any thoughts on this as it is obviously a bit of an issue??? I
don't like the thought of my machine being exposed to vulnerabilities that
could result in someone gaining control of my machine, especially as i am
'always on'.

I also cannot download this one update. This is the error message from
my update log. Any idea what error d00e4104 is?
