windows xp update not working

-- I went on Windows Update and i was trying to update my computer with the
security updates. When i tried to update, it won't do anything and a message
will come up saying Unable to download and install updates. with error
0x80072f76 I get this on 2 computers my other computers that conect to the
same router are ok with the win update so why in 2 comuters on the same
router i can not update and the other 2 are ok??? Can somebody help

I have the Same Problem & Can't Up date Office 2003 & Outlook Security

I'm pretty much having the same problem too. However, I don't use a network
accellerator like Juno or NetZero, I tried all that regsver.dll stuff on
other help pages, I don't have any outside firewalls, I don't have any
connection that requires the unchecking of that proxy box, and every solution
Microsoft has come up with has bombed miserably. Pertty much, if it's been
said before, it didn't work. Short of reformatting, any solutions?

I suggest we all resort to Mirosoft and ask them why they sale defective
operating systems (windows xp) and its abaut time they'll fix this problem!

> i agree. I have not been able to have a Microsoft update download and install since August. I am not receiving error messages, my automatic update icon appear but no updates fail to install. When going to the update site, the security/critical updates fail to download and install.

I cannot download directly from the update site no matter what screwy advice
Microsoft gives me. However, if you can get the activex to work and it shows
what you need, you can then type each kb number into the search box and find
the one for your system and download them each that way. It works for me.
