Hello,

Having problems with windows updates. Currently deployed in Afghanistan and
trying to figure this out. I try to download the updates and it just hangs on
update 1 of 13 saying it is verifying download. Left the computer on all
night on this same download hoping it would finish, but never did. Did not
get any error codes. Can anyone please help me?

Faraway place. How are you downloading? High-speed internet, wireless,
satellite dish, local telephone, etc.?

Yeah we dont have any high speed over here. I beleive it is a satellite
connection, but very, very slow. Last night I left the computer on all night
while it said it was verifying downloads, but it was just stuck on 1 of 13
updates. Thanks for the quick reply.

Where were you looking?
Hint: windowsupdate.log (Ref. KB902093)

When you ask where was I looking, are you asking where I looked for the
windows update or what did I have on my screen?

Hi,

Are you logged on as the PC's admin or an acct with admin priv on the PC?
Check in Control Panel, User Accts and look next to your ID for your "group".

If you cannot get to User Accts (it prompts for a name and PW), you do not
have admin priv.

Log off, logon as user name Administrator and try the password of "password"
or <blank> and choose "local machine" instead of "domain". Try the updates
again...

It is best NOT to be an administrator for everyday use, keeps a lot of BS
out of the PC that may sneak in otherwise. Do not change the way this is
setup - especially if this is a business PC - leave it that way and always
logon as Admin to update.

Most likely the connection is broken enough times and the download is
timing out to necessitate repeat sends. AFAIK, Microsoft does not append
its download packets if the download is interrupted. And checksum errors
will mean re-downloading. Try to find a faster connection or have someone
with access to a high speed connection do the downloads and copy to a
cdrom for you. Good luck.
