See Posts #51 through #58 in this archived thread:

(1) Are you running a non-English version of Windows XP *and* (2) are you
using a Unidrv-based printer *and* (3) is Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0
installed *and* (4) are you seeing English text in the print dialog box when
you print something? If you cannot answer Yes to *all four (4) conditions*,
you don't need to install 934238.

I see I don't need KB934238 for the same 4-set reason. So there is a problem
with Microsoft's software deployment integrity. How can we let MS know of
this bug?

I had the same problem in my desktop Dell dimension4100 and in the laptop
Dell inspiron 8600 with XP sp2.
What I did was to disable the antivirus (Norton) and turn off the computer
allowing to do the update while the computer was turning off. I did not know
if it was the Norton or any of the programs that runs in the memory that was
impiding the installation of the update, but for me it worked.

The issue may be caused by the following factors:

1. The installation is affected by some third-party security software.
2. The downloaded installation file is corrupted.

In order to narrow down the cause of our issue, let's refer to the following
steps:

NOTE: Some third party programs can affect the Windows Update service. If
you are running any third party applications such as Spyblocker, Internet or
web accelerators (programs designed to boost the speed of the Internet
connection), security or anti-virus programs (Norton, McAfee, etc.), I
recommend we temporarily disable or shut them down and then try to access the
Windows Update site later. Please be sure to enable them again when the
update process has been completed.

Step 1: Reload the Update temporary folders
=================================
This step can help reload the downloaded installation files.

1. Click Start, Run, type: cmd and press Enter. Please run the following
command in the open window.
Net stop WuAuServ

2. Click Start, Run, type: %windir% and press Enter.
3. In the open folder, rename the folder SoftwareDistribution to Sdold.
4. Click Start, Run, type: cmd and press Enter. Please run the following
command in the open window.

Net start WuAuServ

If it does not work, let's refer to the following steps to manually download
and install the update in Safe Mode. In Safe Mode, security software will not
be launched.

Step 2: Download and install the update manually.
=====================================
1. Please visit the following link and download the update

Update for Windows XP (KB934238)
http://www.download.windowsupdate.co...4d063938e6.exe

2. Please note its location and install it manually.

Best Regards,

Calven

Thanks Calven - this worked fine. I will need to remember to disable my AV
software again for future problems like this. Thanks again.
