Windows XP Updates Fail after Upgraded system

I replaced the motherboard, processor and memory in my office computer. Used
the exsisting HDs with XP and programs installed. I installed all the current
drivers and MB drivers, BIOS etc. When I first started the computer I would
get a BSD. Figured bad drivers so I used my XP Pro install CD and did a
Windows repair. Everything appeared to be fine until I tried MS Windows
Update. I have downloaded the updates but every one fails to install. I
restarted the computer and tried again several times with the same result. I
know I can download the individual updates but even though this installation
has SP2, it 96 updates. Any idea what has happened?

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update,
from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after
you repair a Windows XP installation

(Try it even if you did a clean, not repair, installation.)
(Try it even if you performed some sort of restore - not repair install.)
