I read about the BLUE SCREEN death re: recent update attributed to KB977165.

I noticed this morning that 9 updates are available and I'm afraid to install.

I ran an manual update and it showed 10 updates available and one of the
is KB977165.

What do I do? I don't want to click on the install updates, so.....

KB977165 will *not* be installed automatically via Automatic Updates; cf.
http://blogs.technet.com/msrc/archiv...-ms10-015.aspx

KB977165 is still being offered via Windows Update/Microsoft Update website.

It would /appear/ that the vast majority of those who encounter BSODs after
installing KB977165 are seeing the effects of a rootkit hijackware infection
(e.g., Trojan W32/Alureon variants), not a "buggy patch." If you're sure
your computer's not infected, you should have no problems after installing
KB977165 & rebooting.

Should you need assistance...

For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY
(and/or 1-866-234-6020 and/or 1-800-936-5700) in the United States and in
Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft subsidiary. There is no-charge
for support calls that are associated with security updates. When you call,
clearly state that your problem is related to a Security Update and cite the
update's KB number (e.g., KB977165)

Or you can...

Start a free Windows Update support incident request:
https://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...spx?gprid=6527

Consumer Security Support home page & Microsoft Update Solution Center also
offer support options
https://consumersecuritysupport.microsoft.com/
http://support.microsoft.com/ph/6527#tab3

For more information about how to contact your local Microsoft subsidiary
for security update support issues, visit the International Support Web
site: http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx

For enterprise customers, support for security updates is available through
your usual support contacts.

If you have backups and are pretty confident you don't have the
malware/viruses that caused the issue with 977165 - install them all.

Otherwise - install all but the 977165 until you are confident in your
computers stability/security - then install it later if it is still offered.
