windows7 looks too much like vista...

When people see it, they will avoid it just because its too vista- like.

Microsoft perceives that they will eventually lose the OS war, that's why
they are keeping their last good OS
alive (XP)

Even with Windows7 you will be able to downgrade to XP!

Yes you heard that... microsoft wants to be sure they have a backup plan
when people just ignore their
attempts to make a new os "based on vista", and will provide downgrade
rights to XP when you get Win7.

While windows7 seems good enough, the reputation of vista as the worse OS
ever made on earth, will retard its retarded sales.

I don't think Microsoft will ever fully recover from the blow vista had on
their business and reputation.

Now Linux is the next big thing....

When I buy my next computer where will I get one without Big Buffalo Bill's

You get one with windows7 because it will be forced upon you.

Now if you could use downgrade rights and go back to XP or switch to
Linux...
that's the step you would have to take. You would have to do it manually or
PAY someone to do it for you.

Microsoft is betting on the ignorance and laziness of people.
That they wont go into much trouble to uninstall the crap Microsoft force
feeds them....

But just imagine how much people hated vista, in order for millions to get
rid of it...
Formatting or dual-booting with XP, switching to linux or MACOS.

What a POS OS! People have actually pulled a gun on vista, firing a bullet
through the monitor.
One guy through his machine out the window... another one through it in a
pool...

Unfortunately that only killed the machine... not vista.
Vista is like an evil spirit.. it doesn't die easily.

It is the next generation of Vista

I do not think so. A few might go with Linux and many more will go with
Apple but I think since this will be the only Windows product it will
eventually be adopted like previous version of Windows other than the
failed Vista.

There is no war for them to loose but they will loose some market share.
Look at the lousy IE. It lost a lot of market share but still retained a
lot. They are worried the same thing will happen to Windows.

Not after a while.

XP will only be retained for netbooks.

There may be some truth there.

They recovered from all the rest of their blunders.

After installing the beta copy of Windows 7, I find it is a lame copy of
Ubuntu, although it is better than Vista and will install on Pent 4 era
computers. I'll be buying it for video games, the only thing Windows is
good for nowadays.

Of course Window 7 looks like Vista it is build on the Vista kernel. Windows
98 and ME were very similar because they were build on the Windows 98
kernel. Windows 7, however, has more security features than Vista and also
is far more stable. It also has more compatibility with hardware than Vista
had when Vista was originally released.

Your choice of operating system will depend upon the manufacturer of your
PC - remember it is not only Microsoft that has to make money, the PC
manufacturers' have to too. If they don't think Windows 7 will sell their
machines then they will opt for an alternative. That alternative will not,
however, be XP. XP has passed its sell buy date now and I don't think
Microsoft will be allowing any 'downgrade' options; if anything the only
downgrade option will be Vista.

Windows 7 beta is another Microsoft Edsel.
It looks and feels like Vista with a slightly different GUI and possibly
faster disc access.
Microsoft claims that Vista drivers will work under Win 7: I can personally
assure you this is not true for the Win 7 64 bit public beta--nothing could
be further from the truth.
