windows98 EMM386 boot error

Cannot start machine:

"emm386 has detected error #01 in an application at memory address
1b8f:34b8. To minimize the chance of data loss, emm386 has halted your
computer. To restart, press <enter>"

But the keyboard accepts nothing, and rebooting does not help. Any
suggestions?

Boot from a floppy and edit CONFIG.SYS on the C: drive to eliminate the
problem.

I am sorry that you are hitting this issue. Was this a Windows Update
problem or a result of a Windows Update? If not, you may get more help
looking at a newsgroup related to the operating system you are using.
