I get this popup 2 or 3 times per week. It tells me to report it to
Microsoft...and I do. But I don't know what's causing it, or what problems
exist. I have automatic updates scheduled and they install just fine (since
April 2008). Shall I try to do something or just live with it. Thanks

You can open the WIA service in services.msc and tell it what to do on
error. If you can't find a better driver for your scanner just turn off the
error report (or buy a compatible scanner)

Thanks for the response, Mark. I'm looking up "Services.msc and reading
about it. I'm not great at this stuff so it will take me a day or so. I'll
get back to you. bobg

As you suggested I looked up Services.msc, found WIA, and selected it to
recover automatically. I'll check it out for the next week to see how it
works. Thanks again for the help. I think I've learned something. bobg
