WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB958644-x64-ENU.exe- Patch

I am trying to apply patch and getting below error in the log and
installation is halted.

0.469: In Function GetBuildType, line 1170, RegQueryValueEx failed with
error 0x2

any clue what regvalue its trying to access ? i also have process man
captured log file.. i could not find any anomaly in the log...

Thank you for the post.

Before going further, please clarify the following points:

1. What update are you trying install? Please let me know its name and
number.
2. How are you installing this update, through WSUS, Automatic Updates or
the Windows Update site?
3. Does any error appear when installing this update? If so, please let me
know the exact wording of the error message.

In addition, please send the following files to me for research:

Windows Update.log
=============
1. Click Start->Run, type: %windir% and press OK.
2. Locate a file named "WindowsUpdate.log". Please be aware that there may
be another file named "Windows Update.log". I am requesting the file
without a space in the middle of the name.

System Information
=============
The System Information can provide us with more information about the
current status of the system. I would like to check it for you. Please send
it to me using the following steps:

a. Click Start, go to Run, type in "MSINFO32" and press Enter to start
System Information.
b. On the popup window, on the menu bar, click File, and click Save to save
it as an NFO file, such as system.nfo.

This is the patch which i am trying to install manually
WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB958644-x64-ENU.exe
No error appears, the progress bar of the installation does not move.

I have uploaded the request files.

Hello Puru,

Did you install manual or with windowsupdate? Is the server uptodate patched
with SP2 and all other patches?

Hi,

Thank you for the reply and sending me the files.

After checking these files, I found the BITS (Background Intelligent
Transfer Service) is stopped. This could be the cause of this issue as it
is an important service to install updates.

I suggest using the following method to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc and press Enter.
2. Right-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service and click Start.
3. Download KB958644 for your x64 system from the following site.

4. Restart your computer and press F8 to enter Safe Mode.
5. Install KB958644 in Safe Mode.

What's the result?

If the issue persists, please send me the KB958644.log in your C:\Windows
folder. This is a hidden file and to show it, you need to unhide your files
first.
