WindowsUpdate+AutoUpdate Not Working [Error Number: 0X8007007E]

Just thought I would update my laptop which was in a corner of my room
since mar`06. So i switched it on and thought, why not do a clean
install again. Got MS WinXp Pro Genuine - Got it all done. Product
Activated. Went to microsoft download and downloaded Genuine Validation
add-on for IE6 and it says im genuine.

Now the problem im facing - i can't seem to update neither through
update.microsoft.com nor through pc autoupdate. I searched and searched
many forums and sites doing yahoo/google/msn search and finally landed
on this site.

It installed the activeX and then .. made me click INSTALL NOW button
to install latest software for the MS update to work.
When I click EXPRESS button :
It says " The website heas encountered a problem and cannot display the
page you are trying to view. The options provided below might help you
solve your problem" [Error number: 0X8007007E]. Same with using CUSTOM
button also.

and done almost everything that is being told/asked to do. But finally
i was forced to register here in this forum and asking this myself.

The FULL WindowUpdate.log is attached here. Its too long.. so i thought
of an easy way. Hope its ok. You can see how many hrs i worked on this
already.. but no luck yet..
Hope looking at the very start on how it all started in the log file
might help you guys to help me out easily.

Tried the AU - it didn't started beside the clock either.. now pc is
set to receive notification. but guess its not working. The pc only got
update till sp2.(installed xp pro_sp2) So u guys can imagine .. about
more than 50+ updates are pending..

Kindly help me out.
