This is strange. I've always had it set up so that Windows Update asks me if
I want to do the update.

Lately, it just does it.

I went into Control Panel/automatic updates and the top choice is checked
and all the choices are greyed out.

I am the only user; it's my laptop.

(I recently did use it to connect to my network at work).

How can I change it to the 3rd choice??

Mel

Check the Service Manager for "Automatic Update" service
Click Start, select Run and type: Services.msc
Press Enter
Locate the - "Automatic Update"
Make sure the service is not disabled and started.

If necessary:-

Go to START, Select RUN
Type: regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
Press Ok

Automatic Updates options are grayed out?:

As I said, the fix worked fine (I read the second article and went into the
registry and now all is fine).

Just curious: what could have caused that problem??
