As you're all aware, yesterday (Feb 8) was the 2nd Tuesday of the month
which means "happy Windows patch time".

Prior to installing MS's list of critcial patches on Feb 8, my XP Home
SP2's Automatic Updates setting was configure with the option "Notify
me but don't automatically download or install them."

However, after installing Feb 8's critical updates I noticed that my
Automatic Updates setting was changed to "Automatic" and all options
are grayed out so that I can't change it from Automatic!!!

Does anyone know which is the guilty WindowsUpdate patch that
re-configured my Automatic Updates options and how I can un-gray out my
options (BTW, I'm on a stand-alone, non-networked PC with full
adiministrative rights).

Thanks!

Hi Cwazee Yeti,

Although I don't know which is the guilty Windows Update patch, you could
try d/loading and running this fix, provided courtesy of Kelly Theriot, to
un-gray out the options:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm (scroll down to line 179,
right-hand column -->Windows Update Greyed Out - Restore)
