WindowsUpdate high priority updates not downloaded by Automatic Updates

Is the Automatic Updates feature meant to download and install
everything marked as High Priority on WindowsUpdate?

I went to WindowsUpdate and found 2 high priority updates, namely .Net
Framework 1.1 service pack 1 and the GDI+ Detection Tool, but nothing
about these 2 updates from Automatic Updates, not even a notification in
System Tray. None of my SP2 machines are alerting or downloading.

Is this normal? Thanks.

Hey, if you get an answer, share it with the rest of the group.

You aren't alone here and none of the MVPs seem to have an
authoritative answer about why these specific "high priority updates"
aren't being automatically installed.

It's true - XP SP2 shouldn't be affected by GDI+ bug.
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS04-028.mspx

My guess is its presence is triggered by my Office installation (?)

..Net Framework is a separate installation from SP2, so I doubt SP2 has
..Net Framework Service Pack 1 fixes within.

Nevertheless, the fixes were listed on WU so AU should have installed
them. Now, I can't even trust AU to do the job for me at all - I'm
going back to my own manual WU checking routine.

| I mentioned these updates last week in a post and someone
| replied saying that these updates should not even be
| installed (or needed) on SP2. I'm still wating on further
| clarification myself.
