Hi,

WindowsUpdate website just suddenly not working on my machine. I am using
IE7, when I visit WindowsUpdate, click on the custom button and it shows
there are some update available; from here, no matter which link I click in
left pane, the whole WindowsUpdate page will appear again within right pane
asking me to choose Express or Custom.

Please help.

Thank you.

I think that that symptom may be associated with ln= language value in the URL.
Check your Languages settings? E.g. from IE: Tools, Options, Languages...
what do you have? Before clicking on a menu button, check in the Status bar
what the URL will be, making sure that ln= has a valid setting.

FWIW it seems harder to simulate your symptom now.
E.g. the best I can do is cause the ln= value to be void.
However, all that does is cause a(n incorrect) message
about the site not being trusted, with all the buttons disabled
except the FAQ one.

What happens if you click on the FAQ button?
Also try using right-click, Copy Shortcut
and then pasting that URL into an Address bar
in another window or tab. Do you see the page intended
for that frame then?

The symptom might also be related to your browser's
Cookie handling and security settings in general,
so go into the Privacy and Security settings dialogs
and choose Default settings. E.g. a quick way
to get to the Privacy settings is via the page's Privacy Report.
(Alt-V,v in an English version of IE); then use the Settings
button and make sure that Default on that tab is greyed.
Similarly a quick way to get to the Security settings
is to doubleclick on the security zone icon in the Status bar
and make sure that the Default Level button in that dialog
is greyed too.

The problem has been resolved. But I'm sure no one believe the solution.

Problem:
If I click on any links (other than those under "Options") in the left pane,
the whole WindowsUpdate main page will reappear again the the right pane.

Solution:
Use Ctrl + Left Click!! Although there will be a blank tab appear, but now
detail of update items will display correctly on the right pane of the
original tab.

Thank you.

Disable BitComet in IE's add-ons prior to accessing WU.
Problem solved.
