Luc,

See if this helps:

You receive a scripting error or a blank page when you visit the Windows
Update Web site or the Microsoft Update Web site

This is still a common, modern day Windows XP Problem:

This link shows several OUTDATED "fixes" (Most of them useless)

The only Fix valid, is the link to the Update for Windows Scripting.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

However, the update refuses to operate under XP SP 3 v.3264

Changing the UPDATE.INF file in that manner:

[Version]
signature = "$Windows NT$"
NtBuildToUpdate=2600
MaxNtBuildToUpdate=2600
NtMajorVersionToUpdate = 5
NtMinorVersionToUpdate = 1
MaxNtMajorVersionToUpdate = 5
MaxNtMinorVersionToUpdate = 1
MinNtServicePackVersion=2 (Original Value, "0")
MaxNtServicePackVersion=2048 (Original Value "512")
LanguageType=00
CatalogFile = scripten.cat

Got be PAST the Error/Not applicable screen- But it just informed me that
"The Integrity of Update.INF has been compromised."

What else I gotta modify to get the update to run.... Or can I just copy the
files in the pack over the damaged scripting components in my System
directory?

The other "fixes" they suggest ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836948 )
are "preform an In-Place Install" - Which won't really work, the components
that are dam(n)aged are NOT part of the file list that is re-installed during
an In Place Install (The entire Scripting Engine is not really included in
XP, it gets "Updated" by Java the first time you go to the WindowsUpdate.com
website.

My question is, how do you "force" the Active X installer to run... Cos in
my case, the Control is not there, in the Downloaded Components folder.

I think it is mixed up with WGA.

What should I do, delete all the WGA components (LegitCheckControl.dll),
will that force a reinstall?

I really don't want to do another (like, the 500th in place install, I don't
think it will fix it, everything else works great, my only problem with this
install is the Windows Update webpage don't work.

I'm also getting this on Windows 7 (RTM build 7600)

I've tried 9from admin prompt):
regsvr32 jscript
regsvr32 vbscript
regsvr32 /i mshtml
resvr32 msxml3

all succeeded except the last, which couldn't find a DLLRegisterServer entry

Unless and until MS makes Win7-specific newsgroups available, you'll have
seek support in the appropriate forum here:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...egory/w7itpro/

That's ridiculous. This is a Windows Update specific, and Windows version
neutral newsgroup. The problem spans many versions of Windows.

I hear you but you'll have to take that up with MS. (No one here works for
or represents MS.) That being said...

Did you ever own a Vista computer and could you reach/use
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com??

Can you run Windows Update manually in Win7 via Start | enter "Update" in
the Search box | click on Windows Update?

How about Control Panel | System and Security | Windows Updates | Check for
updates?

How can I tell if my [Win7] computer is up to date?

Mike,

Windows 7 doesn't open IE and go to any update sites.
Are you referring to the Windows Update applet in Control Panel ?
Open an Elevated Command Prompt { Click the Start orb, enter
cmd in the Search programs and files field.
Under Programs, *right* click cmd.exe and choose 'Run as administrator'
Follow the UAC prompts to allow Command Prompt to run Elevated )
At the prompt type in the below exactly as written and press Enter

winmgmt /verifyrepository

If the " WMI repository is consistent" message appears, then the issue
does not lie with WMI.
If the WMI repository is reported as inconsistent, then run the
following command

winmgmt /resetrepository

The above will reset WMI to the initial state when the OS was first
installed.
Type exit to close the Elevated Command Prompt; reboot if prompted to.

> resvr32 msxml3

You mistyped that, correct ? It should be

regsvr32 msxml3

And, that's an l not a one, after the second m.

I have about tried every solution listed. The machine here is brand new.
Running XP PRO with SP 3. The manuafacturer has no ideas. Luckily I made an
image of the HD as delivered, and update worked early on. Sooo, I restored
the system to its original state and updated the operating software only (no
installation of other vendor software - other than the modem software and
Norton). I then proceded to download and install each of the MS updates one
at a time. Towards the end of the updates, access to the Update screen was
getting chancey. There was a Fixit from MS where winnsock was reset and
that helped for a few days. Now it is just a blank screen. It is too bad
the software from MS is in such a sorry state.
