WindowsUpdate_8E5E0442 WindowsUpdate_dt000

Whenever I try to install new updates in 64-bit Vista Ultimate I get
Error found: Code 8E5E0442. It won't allow me to install security/Vista
updates or even the Windows DreamScene Content Pack #3. I had previously
installed a couple language packs and recently tried to remove them and I got
another error. The language packs aren't being used so I wonder if the
language pack and the Windows Update error have something in common. I've
seen blogs where other people have the same error, but no answers to why.
I've also tried to reinstall Vista, not the clean install but the one where
you keep your current settings, and that failed as well and reverted back to
the original. I was wondering if anyone had some insight or if I have to
install a clean version of Vista to get rid of this problem.

i am on the 32 bit version of vista ultimate and am getting this error but
like you dont know why.

SO...is there an answer? .net and other installs all fail and this code from
Update still occurs on Vista 64 Ult.
