winsat ?

Running Vista Ultimate-32bit all updates... 4GB RAM 6400 800Mhz - NVidia
8800GTX graphics card... QX6700 Quad Core CPU @ 2.66 Mhz

winsat scored the graphics at 5.9 and RAM at 5.6 but when i overclocked the
front side bus to run the cpu at 2.8 mhz, winsat scored the RAM at 5.9 and
the graphics card at 5.6... setting the bios back to original settings and
winsat's scores stick... is there some cache that needs cleared or some
switch setting to get winsat to run properly ?

Look, your system is the bomb, don't let WinSAT confuse you. 5.6 or 5.9 is
an awesome score. I hope Microsoft does something about feature in Vista SP1
or the next client version.

Hi Tim,

In broad outline, I agree with Andre - you have a very fast system, 5.6 or
5.9 are both excellent scores; don't stress over the 0.3!

But for the sake of completeness, here is a procedure to clear and reset
your Winsat score:

Go to Start menu and find Command Prompt in Accessories. Right-click and
choose Run as Administrator, to open an Administrative Prompt.

Type in these commands:

C:\> cd C:\Windows\Performance\WinSAT\DataStore

C:\Windows\Performance\WinSAT\DataStore>mkdir Saved

C:\Windows\Performance\WinSAT\DataStore>copy * Saved

C:\Windows\Performance\WinSAT\DataStore>del *
C:\Windows\Performance\WinSAT\DataStore\*, Are you sure (Y/N)? y

C:\Windows\Performance\WinSAT\DataStore> cd \

C:\>winsat formal -v

Winsat will take a couple of minutes to run. Once winsat has completed
running, it will return to a command prompt. Type "exit" to leave the
Command Prompt.

Now, go back to Control Panel, System and Maintenance, System, Check your
system's Windows Experience Index base score. You should see updated
performance data. You can optionally collect the verbose output from the
Winsat command, to a file:

C:\>winsat formal -v > MyPerf.log

then inspect myperf.log to see all the grizzly winsat details. Run "winsat
/?' for more details about the command-line options.

Thanks... that worked and winsat updated correctly... however... now I'm
wondering why my GPU score went down when it's always been 5.9... I
installed MS Flight Simulator X which seemed to install some DX9
components... could that have fouled my experience rating ? Here are the DX
files installed... note the ones dated 12/1 (when i installed Flight
Sim)... Also... I did run the November DX update but none of these file
dates changed...

Any thoughts ??

Hmm, sorry - I dunno. You could try experimenting with the commands "winsat
d3d" and "winsat dwm" to get some insight into the graphics performance.
