Hi,

No, you can't (and shouldn't try to) delete it. It is a critical system
folder. Explanations abound on the web, here is one of them:

No! Not if you want a working operating system.

What is the WINSXS directory in Win2008 and Vista and why is it so large?

Note that Winsxs is properly pronounced "Windows Sucks".

As bad as a band-aid hack UAC is, this one is worse.

You can delete some subfolders in "Winsxs", to gain a LOT of space as I did.
However:

1) To explain WHAT can be deleted, and what can cause you destroy whole
Operating System if deleted, is too long and I'd do it only if you pay.
2) To explain HOW to delete Vista protected files 9which are impossible to
just click-->delete due to ownership restriction), is again too long and
I'll do that if you pay.

LOL.
Just leave it alone or learn by yourself. See I've owned Vista since just a
few weeks ago and already control my baby from top to bottom, deleting &
changing vital settings that normal people don't have an idea about even
after 3 years of ownership. You're playing with fire. Winsxs stands for
"windows side by side", it's basically a DLL despository where the same DLL
library may exist in multiple incanrantions so applications can pick what
they like, and not end up in DLL Hell as was in Windows9x.
You can only delete if you know what you're doing, I got no less than a
GIGABYTE regained but it's too long to explain.

Look if you have a giant harddrive as most of you do, unlike poor me, why do
you care?
Leave Winsxs hard & sexy. Admit, that folder is sexy, just fondle it and
subfolders may grow even larger?
