I keep receiving this error code whenever I try to install Security Update
for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB886903) Which is
summarized as, "A security issue has been identified that could allow an
attacker to compromise your Windows-based system running the Microsoft .NET
Framework and gain access to restricted data. You can help protect your
computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this
item, you may have to restart your computer. Details..."

How can I get past this? Please help!

Rob

Updates from the Windows Update Web site are not installed and an "Error 0x80070005:
Access is denied" error message is logged to the Windows Update.log file

This error message may occur if you have insufficient permissions to the Windows
Update registry keys. The WindowsUpdate.log file will also read errors 0x80070005 and
0x80080005.

Please also have a look at: "Access denied" section here:
http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm#C...Service_Pack_2
and also:-
You receive an "Access is denied" error message when you try to install Windows XP
Service Pack 2

Also check to see that the branches.inf is not marked read only.

The inf folder is hidden.

Click Start, select: Run, type the following: %windir%\inf
Press OK
