WinXp Home 32bit sp3 needed?

Hello, I have SP2 and am wondering why my system does not try to download
sp3. I have most if not all the updates that my system has wanted to download
in the last year or so and am wondering if it is because I already have
everything that sp3 has to offer or if my system is just giving me problems
and if there is anyway to tell? Considering the fact that I have read that
there are a few small functionalities that are included in the update.

Thank you much.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955307/en-us lists some of the
possible reasons for that.

Note that while there are few new functions for SP3, SP3 contains **all**
security updates since SP2 (which you have hopefully) plus a stack of
non-security updates (most you don't have or need but good to be proactive).

As well, MS will cease to offer any security updates for SP2 somewhere
around mid-2010. So if you intend on keeping your system for 1+ years then
you'll need SP3. If not....

Check your assumption. Perhaps it has already started
to download and got suspended? That's what I discovered
happened in my case. Evidently it had been sitting that way
for about a month before I took the time to check it out.
I was able to use bitsadmin /resume to restart and finish
the download. BTW the same thing happened when I tried
to let AU get XPsp3 for my mother's XP partition too but that
time I was prepared for it.

Also, you may have to check WindowsUpdate.log
or ReportingEvents.log to see if the XPsp3 update
was ever seen because it also seems to be possible
for BITS to close off a part of the package and then
for some reason AU never sees it again.

Good luck
