Can you use the full version of WinXP Pro to upgrade from WinXP Home or do
you have to have the upgrade version?

You can use either a "Full Retail Version" or "Retail Upgrade Version"
of Windows XP Professional to upgrade over Windows XP Home Edition.
However, an "OEM Version" cannot be used to upgrade.
