WinXP Home won't boot after SP2

Hello,

I've tried installing SP2 on my PC twice. It won't boot after installation.
I've asked this question before (late Nov) and rec'd some responses. I
dnld'd Intel Util and have found out my P4 is 1.7ghz,,, Type 0, Family F,
Model 0, Stepping A, Rev 9. That doesn't mean anything to me. Do I need to
update my BIOS? This is in a Gateway 500X.
