Already few times I tried to install service pack 2 on win XP pro.
Installation always fail and I get setup error information: " Unable to read
from or write to database". Next after few seconds will appear information
that installation fail. Of course every day I can see icon on taskbars that
informs new updates are ready, but it is sp2 that will fail again if I try
it. I have Norton internet security, so I tried to disable virus protection
and disabled fire wall during instalation but this does not help at all. Also
scanned my computer for viruses, worms and parasites but no change at all.
Defragment hard disc, scanned for error also doesnot help. Disabled all
possibles programs from startup menu as suggested by MVP - still no result. I
guess there must be some problem with corrupted file or something similiar
but why installation starts and stops after few minutes?
I will appreciate any suggestions.

Hi

I would think you need to delete/rename the .log files in
the folder %windir%\Security\ (and maybe %windir%\System32\CatRoot2\).

I have created a batch file that does this for you (and some more
that is ok to run anyway).

Go to
http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm#C...Service_Pack_2

Look for fixdb.bat under "Error 0x800710D9 Unable to read from
or write to the database"
