My system constantly notifies me an update is ready to install but the KB
number shows installed and the history shows multiple installs of this KB
number. My Belarc Advisor says the security hotfix fails verification, the KB
number is KB936181.

Dial-a-Fix doesn't correct the problem.

I have read the knowledge base article about this problem but it makes no
sense at all.Can anyone help me correct this problem,my only solution is to
turn off auto updates which I hesitate to do.

Thank you.

Bob
I dont know if you have searched in the group, but MowGreen suggests the
below - unless this is the KB article you have read.
It is indeed a cracker.
But I believe this is a fix-

Is MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB936181) listed ?
If YES, go here and read the ' Known issues with this security update '
section: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936181

If NO, please post back with that information"

I don't think you do have the same problem. The OP had one specific
problem.
You have either recently reinstalled XP or you are updating from SP1 to SP2.
May I suggest you do your own post, which I can understand can be difficult
in the web interface you are using, rather than newsgroups.

This may help depending from where you are starting.
Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update,
from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after
you repair a Windows XP installation

I had the same problem with my wife's laptop. Each time I booted the computer
it would alert me of an update. I would elect to update but it specified "0"
bytes and would complete the update process. A minute later the update icon
would appear in the system tray.

I followed the "Description of the security update for Microsoft XML Core
Services 4.0: August 14, 2007" I did a search for Msxml4.dll and found 4
files with the same name in different folders. I deleted the file that was in
the System32 folder and it seems to have fixed the problem.

Thanks all,I deleted the file in the sys32 folder and no more reminders to
install the same patch.I periodically check windows update and no patches
are waiting. Now I am waiting for a reminder for a new patch to finish the
task.

Great group, great folks and lots of really good advice!
