Wired vs. Wireless

I have a laptop with both wired and wireless access to my network.
The wireless connection is set to "Automatically connect when available"

I assumed Vista (SP1) was smart enough to use to the wired connection if
both are available.

I tried reordering "Local Connection" before "Wireless connection" in
network > advanced parameters > cards and bindings.
I also tried setting manual metrics in the tcp/ip advanced settings to
give the wired connection a higher priority (lower number).
The wifi signal strength doesn't matter either. Even with a "Weak"
signal (5 mb vs. 100mb wired), Vista insists on using the wifi whenever
both are available.

I'd hate to have to tell my user he'll have manage his wireless access
manually.

What am i missing?

My laptop has a switch to disable the wireless.

Hmmm well what's wrong with having to connect manually? IMHO
automatic wireless connections are a security problem.

Try setting the interface metric on the wireless connection to 100.

Well, sure for people for you and me it's perfectly fine but why should
my boss, who knows absolutely nothing about computers have to worry
about what network connections he's using. It should "just work".
