Wireless Mouse stops working after update......

I have been using a Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0 for about two years.
My operating system, Vista, performed an automated update overnight a few
days ago and ever since my wireless mouse quit working. I re-installed the
software, checked for Vista-specific updates for the mouse (online), put new
batteries in, and even attempted another Microsoft wireless mouse. I have
had to revert of a wired mouse in the meantime. Any ideas? Thanks in
