Wireless not connecting anymore for some reason

Hi All,
For some reason the other day I lost the ability to connect to my wireless
using my Vista laptop. I can plug it in and connect no problem. The laptop
sees my network (strength is excellent) but when I try to connect it can't do
it anymore. My XP machine has no problems connecting via wireless so I know
my router is ok. My router is a d-link WBR series.

Any ideas?

In IE, tools menu, Options, Connection tab, is the dot in 'never dial a
connection'?

Ping the internet modem. See the router setup for that IP.

No ping is not too bad. I think you might have luck with restarting your
Internet modem. Maybe the router too. The router should be sending the ping,
and the internet modem should answer. I would look at the router setup to be
sure the MAC address for the Internet modem is right (maybe an option to
'clone Mac address' there)

I tried re-booting both with still no luck. What is really wierd is my other
laptop is working wireless fine...no problem at all. I'm actually using that
machine to type on here now.

Could it have something to do with the IP address of my laptop that's not
connecting? It's not close to what my desktop machine's or my router's ip
address is.

I don't know what to guess, really. IP collision? wrong sub net address? You
see the net, so the router is OK. I'm still betting on something in the Mac
address. Have you looked at netstat, and IPConfig?

Yes, that's why it cannot connect anymore. What is the IP that the machine
has using wireless? Is the IP 169.254.xxx.xxx? And forget about the
wireless aspect for now. Can the machine connect to the router and get to
the Internet using a network cable? What is the IP when it's using a cable.
Do you know someone that has a USB wireless card you can use to check to see
if the problem follows? Have you taken the laptop with the exiting wireless
card to a wireless cafe and can it connect?

You're going to need to go into some kind of process of elimination here.
