I have Windows 2000 professional on my computer
I have not had any successful updates since July 11. 2005 per Microsoft web
site. I have checked my windows update log today and the last entry was since
August 11, 2005. In reviewing the logs, I have not found any errors messages.
FIRST PROBLEM: Windows Genuine Advantage Error KB892130 with download file
equal to ZERO. I did three thing to try to correct
1)Changed my Active X controls to prompt per article 905226
2)Turning off Norton Security during updates.
3) Download the active x cab file from the microsoft link and copied two
files to System 32 directory. When I tried to run
REGSVR32LegitCheckControl.dil.
I received message cannot find file or system REGSVR32.
I went back to Microsoft download site hoping for miracle and the following
happened
I got to the screen that shown number of updates needed is 19 .
I tried to download and install the files. However, after the attempt I
noticed that the file download size of each file is ZERO.
Only message I receive is " Failed updates" A problem on your computer is
preventing updates from being installed"

Any idea would be greatly appreciated as I am novice in terms of trouble
shooting these problems. Thanks in advance for any help.

Rick,

The proper command to run is

regsvr32 LegitCheckControl.dll

NOT - regsvr32LegitCheckControl.dil

Note the space between regsvr32 and LegitCheckControl
Also note that it's LegitCheckControl.dll NOT
LegitCheckControl.dil

Just copy&paste the correct command into the Open: line.
If that fails, suggest you delete the contents of the WINNT\Software
Distribution\Download and EventCache folders and then attempt the
updates again. It appears that Norton has damaged/corrupted the contents
of both folders.

First, thanks to "MowGreen" for the quick response to my problem listed
below. I corrected by entry in the run field as suggested below was able to
install the WGA engine I believe. I also deleted all files in the download
and event cache as suggested.
However, I still cannot receive updates from windows . When I click on
express install it shows 19 updates needed with all updating shows zero for
file size. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Howdy Rick,

It appears that Norton has damaged BITS. See if following the steps here
restores it :
http://www.botmanfamily.net/~aurelie...reinstall.html
Please keep us posted on this, Rick.
