well, in the meantime, I went to the v4 Update web page and had my PC scanned
and updated from there - that works well. The exact address of the v4 Update
page is in a post a bit further in this forum. It should be (typos excepted)
v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/en/default.asp
on this page, select 'Windows Update" on the left hand side under See Also.
This starts the scan - and still works.
The v6 update seems to have real problems.
