I understand this is still an issue with WLM 11. PATHETIC! Absolutely
inexcusable that they would let this go for so long. This is a financial
hardship for those who depend on an efficient e-mail system. The designers
should be sued...as should Microsoft... for not supporting the program!

An irresponsible piece of junk from an increasingly slipshod company!

Hi, OREALLY.

Please explain what you mean.

The "Sent" column contains DATES and TIMES - numbers, not words, so there's
nothing to alphabetize - except AM and PM.

What are you actually trying to do? And in which program? In which part of
the program? I'm using WLM 2011 - and you posted you question using WLM
2011.

Far be it to stick up for MS. Personally, I can't stand WLMail. That said,
it is *not* a part of any Windows version, but rather an add-on. With that
in mind, it is technically no different than any other third party e-mail
client such as Thunderbird, Pegasus, or Eudora.

If you don't like WLMail, don't use it. I don't.

You'd think that Microsoft would make that clear when purchasing their
'updated' Windows 7 OS. WLM is a downgrade from Outlook Express...which they
don't support with upgrades or anything else. To an everyday user , the
situation is infuriating, WLM, especially WLM 11 is such a piece of junk!

Okay....what desktop e-mail program would you suggest where we could import
our messages, contacts and set up newsgroups...one that actually works, I
mean?

Don't forget that OE was last used in XP and Windows Mail was used in
Vista. Production of both ended in June, 2006. (And Vista was still in
beta).

I don't suppose you have Win7 Pro, Enterprise or Ultimate per chance? If
you do, (I have Ultimate), you can use OE in XP Mode.

How to use Outlook Express in Windows 7
http://www.oehelp.com/OEnWin7.aspx

You can also hack in Windows Mail, but it is not practical, IMO, for the
long run. I use it for news only.

First, you need access to a Vista machine.

On the Win7 machine, find the "Windows Mail" folder in Program Files.
Rename it to "OldWindows Mail" as a precaution.

Using a Flash or CD, copy the "Windows Mail" folder in its entirety from
the Vista machine.

Go back to the Win7 machine and copy the "Windows Mail" from the Flash or
CD to a location in Program Files.

Open it and right click on the WinMail.exe file and send a shortcut to the
Desktop. Done.

An alternative.

However, when I got this Win7 machine, I used WLMail 2009 for a few
months, but then switched to Thunderbird. It isn't the same as OE, but
better than WLMail, especially V 2011. And the best part, they still have
newsgroups and are very helpful. They can help as far as importing goes. I
couldn't figure it out so I just dragged WLMail message so desktop folders
and then dragged them into TB folders. TB does do news as well.

I really appreciate your heads-up frank help...and I think you agree that
the slipshod programming in WLM 11 is totally unacceptable!
Even though I do have 7 / Pro / going to XP mode is just not practical.

How about going back to WLM 9 using Windows 7. Is this possible? Can I
export /import my mesaages wtc back to WLM 9?

Thanks Much

Oreally

MSOE was so bad I stopped using it in favor of Pegasus Mail (e-mail) and
Xnews (news) back when MSOE was still at version 5.5. Slipshod programming
of mail and news clients all the way back to MS Mail and News, predecessor
to MS Outlook Express. What else is new?

And as for suing, just how much did you pay for Windows Live Mail? That is
probably the extent of the damages the court will allow you to collect.
