In your example...the first article was incorrect by stating that the only
the web installer was available and not the full installer foa an offline
install..second, then provided a link but to another site(which they have
no control over). In fairness to that site..they did provide another link
provided by an external source for the 2009 full installer(which appears to
be valid) though they did get lucky since the article was dated May 8 2010
and three days prior to the last 2009 RTW version update..lucky only
because while a new RTW 2009 version was released the installer link
remained constant.
Thus, you concern is always valid, especially in the above case where a
site links to another site or doesn't update the site informing that a
later version of the same vintage(in this case 2009) would be downloaded.

Here's what I find _many_ times... a 2009 full install link that leads to
2011 (not a 2011 that leads to 2009). For example...
Download Windows Live Messenger 2009 Standalone Installer or Full Setup
http://bit.ly/y3AsT
leads to Windows Live Messenger 2011 15.4.3502.0922
I know that's just Messenger, but many WL 2009 links pointed to Microsoft
which has redirected the links to the 2011 installer.
Here's a link that I found for 2009 full install... *Use at your own risk*
