WLM 8.1 Error 81000378

I just reinstalled my system with Windows Vista Ultimate and updated
everything with Windows Update.

When i then installed WLM 8.1 and try to log in using my standard account it
just says my contact list is not available and that i should try again later.

I then waited for several houres but i still get the same error.

I also tried to log on Webmessenger and that works fine so there is no
issues with the account itself.

The really weird part is that if i dont open messenger but simply
right-click the icon in the system tray and choose to log on there it logs on
fine.
But if i then try to open messenger up it comes with the error that it could
not get my contact list.

I've tried googling the error and all i found out is that several others
have had the same error but no solution so far.

I'm hoping someone in here can help me with this issue as it is really
annoying.

i also have this problem

its weird it was perfectly fine today till about 8pm (AEST) then i reload my
computer and its off ... i've tryed every version of the messenger client i
could get a hold of .. thus far the only one that worked was 7.5 .. i even
tryed the beta 8.5 (it doesnt work) im just hopeful my msn if running again
tomorrow because i need it for my study and whatnot

anywho this is a cry for help hehe .. i also had a thort .. im running a
Standard Netgear DG834G ... any help to me?

Dennis,

I am with Vista and I am having similar problems, All was able to make it
work is the version 7.5 , all the newest one didn't work...

I am on the same boat. All I was able to make it work on my Vista is the 7.5 ,
